This is a unique reproduction of a classic Italian masterwork, "The Effects of Good Government" by Ambrogio Lorenzetti (Siena,1285-1348). The painting is reproduced on wood and lacquered. The entire panel, including the red/gold/silver frame treatment, is wood. The wood knots/grain are visible on the backside.
This was purchased in Milan, Italy in the 1970s. The gallery (name marked on the back) specialized in "new" works created from old masterpieces - "editizioni d'arte". It is a dramatic, visual statement.
