Carl Rochling (1855-1920). Signed in lower right corner. Framed in a hand-carved, gilded frame. This highly important example of the work of Carl Röchling dates to around 1890 and perfectly illustrates his close attention to detail and ability to paint in an atmospheric manner. It relates very closely to two other compositions by Röchling, firstly his ‘Flusslandschaft mit Bauernvesper’ sold at auction in Zurich in 2006 and secondly, his painting entitled ‘Ersturmung des Schlosses Gaisberg’ currently housed at the Museum of Breslau in Germany. All of these paintings fall into the category of his contemporary figure subjects rather than his historical work for which he is also known.Much of his work is housed in important German collections both public and private. less
