Asahina Saburo was a retainer of the Kamakura Shogunate and the third son of Wada Yoshimori, and was called Saburo. He was known for his outstanding bravery among the vassals of the Kamakura Shogunate.
In the second year of the Shoji era, Minamoto no Yoriie set sail from Kotsubo Beach to hold a drinking party. At the time, Yoriie heard that Saburo was an expert in swimming and ordered him to demonstrate his swimming skills. Saburo dived deep underwater and, after a fierce fight, managed to catch three crocodiles to the amazement of the people.
