Refinished mid century modern one-of-one blond mahogany sideboard / credenza, made in Los Angeles c. 1950s. This piece has been fully refinished, bringing out the incredible chatoyance and natural color of the wood. The grain patterns are striking and come alive in direct sunlight. The body sits atop elegantly sculpted legs while the minimalist aesthetic draws subtle attention to the chromed cabinet pulls. The leftmost compartment houses four drawers, while the center and right are vertically segmented with shelves.
The maker spared no expense, using mahogany, rather than a less exotic wood, for the drawers and structural components that remain unseen during daily use. Several aspects of the build – the cuts that form the notched grooves for the vertical cabinet spacers, the way the vertical spacers were fixed with nails from above and then covered, the construction of the drawers – indicate that this piece was not factory-made. less
