Magnificent Art Deco monumental dresser, sideboard, or chest of drawers comprised of solid walnut custom made & signed in 1935 styled after Donald Deskey, Paul Frankl, & Edward Wormley. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, the top has been refinished but it still has a slight black water ring too stubborn to remove. Now THIS is a MONUMENTAL MASTERPIECE!!!!! I mean, this is a PARTICULARLY special piece folks!! A recent quote by my well-accomplished father-in-law who has been in the business of vintage furniture and interior design and has done some incredible custom building of his own for well more than half of his life. BEFORE I was even BORN… He has had his hands directly on this beautiful beast and commented that this is “a REALLY special piece.” Unquestionably one of the most spectacular pieces we have EVER had to offer! That’s a big deal, people!! Trust me, you wouldn’t want to hear some of the OTHER things he says around the shop!! LOL!!!! Seriously… it is EXQUISITE!!! It is comprised of a SOLID walnut frame (No veneer here people... LOL!) bearing a GORGEOUS all-over wood grain and SEVEN spacious drawers featuring two 2-inch diameter cylindrical pulls running vertically down the face of the cabinet posing an illusion that they are one piece when in fact, they double as the handle for all of the drawers. The have a cap detail on the edge of the top and base that brings the cylinder together when the drawers close… BEAUTIFUL!!! The top 3 rows of drawers are composed of two side by side drawers and the bottom drawer was made to appear as two drawers, but it is in fact only one extra-long drawer! They all have the same depth… seriously, storage space is NEXT LEVEL!!!!! This piece has fabulously unusual custom dimensions at 40.5 T x 72 L x 26 D… you can grasp that it stands taller and is overall, more substantial than your standard “chest of drawers.” Did we mention it is ONE of a KIND??? That’s right, it was custom made and signed in 1935. (See photo of signature) We would LOVE someone to clarify the name so we could give credit where it’s due but throughout our extensive research, we have been unable to confirm the name of this master craftsman. It bears styles after icons including Donald Deskey, Paul Frankl, and Edward Wormley but regardless, it is nothing short of MAGNIFICENT!!! And an interesting story accompanies this beauty… It was owned by David Stewart of Kansas City, Missouri who was the director of L’Omega which was an amazing art gallery stationed within a renovated 1921 service station building that Mr. Stewart says was chosen by the Smithsonian to be in a traveling show called “Buildings Reborn.” L’Omega was the home of Art Deco, Nouveau, and contemporary art objects with an objective to bring fine art to the Kansas City area. He led an interesting life filled with love for his community, travel, different cultures, and a need to support the arts until he passed away in 2011. There is a wonderful article/piece written about him in a book titled “Greater Kansas City’s Successful Single Men by Virginia Moffett & Rosalyn Jacobson. WOW!!! the stories we might hear if this beauty could talk, huh?? This piece spent many years in his home and now it’s ready to grace YOUR home with its marvelous Art Deco presence and create NEW stories!!! Oooooh! We get excited about vintage pieces and the fascinating lives they have led and stories they could tell!! Don’t you?? As we mentioned, it’s large… so you need a spacious wall or considerable space for it to boast its full potential! It would be wonderful in a grand entry or along a sizeable wall in the dining area utilized as a sideboard or if you have a larger bedroom or dressing area, it would be an incredible chest of drawers or dresser. It is BEYOND COMPARE, it is BIG, it is BOLD, and it is a BEAUTIFUL BEAST!!! Call it a cabinet, call it a dresser, call it a chest of drawers or a sideboard but, whatever you choose to call this marvelous monstrosity… you certainly better choose to call it YOURS!!!!!
