A 1961 abstract ink painting titled Fireflies by German-American artist Aribert “Ari” Munzner (born 1930). Black ink is used to create abstract fireflies with loose line art in this energetic piece. The work is signed to the lower right corner and displayed in a wooden frame with a white mat. The note on verso has title and a description of the material used as being “Japanese Ink on Rice Paper."
Aribert “Ari” Munzner fled Germany with his family at the age of seven, eventually settling in New York long term. Munzner received his BFA from Syracuse University and his MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art. He was a professor at Minneapolis College of Art and Design, fully retiring and switching his full-time career to painting in 2005.
