"Portrait of Picasso" by Salvador Dalí, from a limited edition published in 1970 of 140 offset lithograph prints, plus small number of HC prints such as this one. Printed on olive green watermarked GVA-RRO handmade laid (chain) paper with a plate mark around the image, after a drawing executed by Dalí c. 1930. "Salvador Dalí Ce conu L’Empereur, Mantilla Erecta" is faintly visible in the print, alluding to Dalí depicting Picasso in Napoleonic garb in the original. Sheet size: 17-1/2 x 12-1/4 inches; image size: 5-1/2 x 3 inches. Signed and marked "HC" by Dalí. HC, short for Hors Commerce, translates to out of trade in English. HC prints are given to the artist for allowing the publisher to print the artist's work. Because of their rarity and connection to the artist, HCs are the most valuable prints of an edition.
