Exquisite Large Hand Painted Chinese Blue & White Porcelain Temple Vessels. Menjiang Temple & Monk Motifs. Applied Loops at the Upper Rim for Lid Closure. Wood lids are not included. Excellent condition.
Recently purchased from the family estate of a prominent Lexington, KY broker, these Chinese antique blue and white porcelain temple jars depict a beautiful temple landscape scene and are believed to have originated from a private local kiln in the late 19th or early 20th century. Made for the Eastern Asian market, temple jars are thought to have initially served as containers for the remains of the deceased, gracing the interiors of Buddhist temples, which is how they earned their name. Similar to ginger jars, their use evolved over time to store a variety of items such as rice, spices, herbs, and salts. Nowadays, their primary function is ornamental, enhancing the aesthetics of the spaces they occupy. they are made of high-quality porcelain (not stoneware) and the intricate details on the jar are a testament to the skill of the craftsmen who created them, very painterly. With their vibrant blue color and beautiful design, these rare and exquisite temple jars are a wonderful addition to any collection of Asian antiques and will add value and charm to any estate. The jars are grade-A investment quality both in craftsmanship and condition. As an avid lover and connoisseur of Asian treasures, I can verify that these pots and the quality of them is indeed rare to find. A great opportunity to add history, beauty, and value to your home, office, or collection.
