Rare antique English oyster veneer table, c.1850
A beech wood turned base and stretchers with an oyster veneer top and drawer front. This type of veneering is called oyster because the grain resembles an oyster shell. It is made by cutting across the grain of smaller branches to give an intricate pattern. In this case it’s probably yew wood. The top is also edged in cross banded beech wood. Also has brass and copper hardware. Good antique condition. Solid construction. Recently waxed and polished.
