This museum-quality piece, fit for a king, stands as a magnificent centerpiece for any collector of Napoleonic artifacts. Crafted in France in the early 20th century by an unknown master craftsman, the table displays an exceptional level of artistry and attention to historical detail.
The tabletop showcases a meticulously executed marquetry rendition of Jacques-Louis David's iconic "Napoleon Crossing the Alps" (1805). Composed of thousands of individually set inlaid pieces, the central image is bordered with double bands of fine maple and mahogany, enhancing the table's luxurious appeal. Flanking the central scene, each drop leaf features a Napoleonic eagle with spread wings, grasping Napoleon's sword in its beak, symbolizing power and imperial authority.
The front of the table boasts a single drawer, bordered with gadrooned ebony and adorned with Bacchus faces, which are also mirrored on the reverse. The central pedestal base is equally impressive, showcasing intricate inlays of Napoleon and Josephine's crowns, imperial eagles, and laurel leaves below a radiant "N" starburst—symbols of empire and glory. Each side of the pedestal is meticulously inlaid with flags representing Napoleon's pivotal battles, including the Battle of Abukir, the Battle of the Pyramids, Montenotte, Arcole, Castiglione, and Rivoli. The verso of the pedestal is embellished with an imperial eagle, its wings spread and draped with laurel leaves.
Adding to its grandeur, the table rests on four robust, splayed legs, each featuring inlaid cannons, underscoring the piece’s martial theme. This table is not only an exceptional piece of craftsmanship but also a tribute to Napoleon's military legacy.
**Dimensions:** 37" W x 26.5" D x 29.875" H, with an expanded width of 59.75" when spread.
**Note:** This table is substantial in weight but can be disassembled for transport. A concealed wood beam secures the tabletop to the central pedestal, accessible by fully removing the drawer. The pedestal itself can be dismantled, featuring a central heavy-duty steel beam for added support. less
