This vintage studio art bowl is a beautiful work of art, by Artist Joseph Hysong ( 1925-2008). He is a Monterey California ceramic artist who was educated at San Jose State and in the 1950's and 1960's was an instructor at the University of Hawaii's Ceramic program with the likes of Claude Horan, and Toshiko Takaezu.
This bowl is utilizing a technique of layered glazes in matte, gloss, and iridescence. This piece is from a Santa Cruz Mountains collection featuring pieces from California and Hawaii.
