This is an Absolutely Beautiful - Very Fine Quality Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Flask - Bottle. Note that it has a Hanger Loop on the Reverse Side so that it Could be either Carried in a Handbag or Attached by Chain to be worn as Chatelaine Accessory. These Type of Chatelaine Bottles were Made in Different Sizes for Different Purposes. The Smaller Ones ( Scent Bottles ) were Usually Used for Perfumes Etc. This one is a but Larger and Based on its Design I believe it Could have Actually Been Made to be used as a Liquor - Whisky Flask ( Yes back in the Day Many Women did Like to Have a "Nip" ). It has an Assortment of English Hallmarks Below the Chatelaine Hanger that are a Bit Obscured - High Point Wear that Indicates that it was Actually Worn on a Chatelaine. I was However able Decipher that they Include the "Anchor" Town of Birmingham Mark, The Lion Passant Sterling Silver Mark, The "o" inside of Round Cartouche 1888 Date of Creation Mark, and the D&F Maker Mark of the Noted and Well Documented Deakin & Francis of Birmingham. There is Also a Queen Victoria Profile "Reign" Hallmark that is Often Found on English Sterling Silver Items From this Era. This is a Completely Hand Made Piece of Silver. It is Rendered in a Fancy Rococo Revival Style with Bold High Relief Hand Chased, Repousse & Engraved Decorated Features. The Attention to Detail Confirms that it would have Been Made by a Master Silversmith. The Threaded Removable Cap also has a Cork Seal Fitted to Seal to Prevent Leakage. There is a Hand Engraved 2 Letter C H Monogram on the Front. It is in Excellent Condition and Display Beautifully. No Damage - Only Minimal Age and use Related Wear. It is Somewhat Tarnished.
It has a Substantial Solid Sterling Silver Weight of Approx 43.51 Grams / 1.399 Troy Ounces.
It Measures Overall Approx 3 1/8 inches Tall x 2 5/16 inches Long x 1 inch Wide - Deep.
