- Extraordinary Early 19th Century French Empire Napoleon III Egyptian Revival Bronze Mounted Throne Armchair (Sphinx) upholstered in fabric of the … more Extraordinary Early 19th Century French Empire Napoleon III Egyptian Revival Bronze Mounted Throne Armchair (Sphinx) upholstered in fabric of the era. This chair was a gift from a curator at the Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg, Russia. It was a piece collected by Catherine the Great from France during her campaign of the region. It was reupholstered in fabric from the archives at the Hermitage also reported to be from the area. The brass/bronze sphinx like winged statues are solid as is the adornment on mahogany. Two clawed feet present on the front legs. The fabric is in excellent condition. less
