It has four parts: a 5-foot-high standing figure; a 1-foot-high oval … more Impressionist wood carving by Mozambican sculptor Alberto Chissano (1935-1994). It has four parts: a 5-foot-high standing figure; a 1-foot-high oval base that is a slice of a tree trunk; a metal rod that goes inside the figure and base to hold them together; and a removable head that is not attached to the rest of the sculpture. The three visible parts are made entirely from wood.

The sculpture has been interpreted by some as an alien standing over a fallen/resting Moon face and reflecting on it.

This sculpture was acquired in 1989 by the US ambassador to Mozambique, Melissa Wells, directly from Mr. Chissano (1935-1994). The removable head was delivered together with the rest of the sculpture. less
