Silvio poma mountain landscape with walking on the path from the end of the 19th century, oil painting on poplar plywood depicting a path animated by passers-by in a tree-lined countryside in the foothills. The well-dressed people walking and the children playing in the meadows suggest a sunday day. The composition of this landscape with late 19th century figures is well balanced. In the background, at the foot of the mountains, the buildings of a town can be glimpsed. The painting is signed lower left in s. Poma italics and is in a good state of preservation. It is presented in a modern golden frame of cm. 31 x 44 cm deep. 5.
silvio poma (trescore balneario 1840 – turate 1932) is known as a landscape painter with a repertoire of lake views, often going to lake como and the small village of lierna to paint, of an intimate nature, also showing the influence of his contemporary filippo carcano in their realistic approach. The period from 1883 onwards saw an increase in activity with the systematic presentation of works in national exhibitions and lasting success on the art market.
he participated as a volunteer in the second war of independence and subsequently took up military life, but in 1866 he resigned from the army after contracting malaria. Upon his return to milan he attended the studios of giovan battista lelli and gerolamo induno, both painter-soldiers with whom he had come into contact during the military campaign of 1859. He made his debut at the brera fine arts exhibition in 1869, but the first official recognition did not arrive until the middle of the following decade: in 1876 he won the mylius prize from the brera academy of fine arts with a canvas of a historical subject set in a large natural context of romantic taste entitled macbeth encounters the witches in the woods of dunscinane they predict the throne for him; in 1877 one of his landscapes was purchased at the national exhibition of naples by vittorio emanuele ii. He was buried at the maggiore cemetery in milan, where his remains were then collected in a small cell.
