Solid base about 16" x 18" has 5 big old "mystery spikes" which were pounded 10' up the trunk of the tree many years ago in the forest. The artisan who created the table followed the chain of custody of the tree from selectively harvested timber tract in PA, to sawmill, through lengthy drying process, and finally to his creative process. The crotch top surface is from the same tree.
Many clear coats of oil based finish were used to bring out the exquisite natural color & figure. The base holds a large fist sized burl with 2 sides cleanly sawn & finished. But the opposite "spiked" side of the base is natural live edge.
Patience, experience & skill were used by the artisan that created this one of a kind creation. Rest assured, it was carefully processed & dried to expose it's beauty but also to make sure that the moisture was removed so that it would be stable indoors. In the final stages of drying it was equalized, conditioned & heat treated to ensure that there is no activity within it. less
