At first glance, I … more This unassuming wrought iron strapwork bench was under a forgotten tree at a local estate sale. At first glance, I loved this bench for its enduring simplicity but didn’t truly appreciate the craftsmanship until I picked it up and realized it was a two-person carry. As I was putting it in the back of my truck, I noticed the hammer forged scrollwork, and realized this bench was fastened by hand, entirely with rivets. Upon researching I was unable to find another bench exactly like this. Most Victorian Era strap benches of similar design have closed metal loop front legs, while this bench’s legs are open and terminate in hammer forged scrolls that are mostly intact. After some research I believe this is an early to mid Victorian French or English bench, but it could be early American less
