On the back there is the artist's stamp on the frame. De Bernardi's painting fits into the nineteenth-twentieth century Lombard landscape tradition. He always lived in Besozzo, his hometown in the province of Varese, but he traveled a lot, in Italy and outside of Italy, collecting impressions and searching for new landscapes to relive them in his work. He favored landscape production, even if expressed with a changing style in his various pictorial phases. There is no lack in his production of some still lifes, dating back mainly to the 1940s, scrupulously designed compositions aimed at tackling the problems of light and atmospheric depth, as in this presentation of some bread and tomatoes on a rustic table. Restored and relined, the painting is presented in a frame. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
