Peter Carl Fabergé: Goldsmith and Jeweller to the Russian Imperial Court ; His Life and Work Hardcover Book by Henry Charles Bainbridge.
Peter Carl Faberge - His Life and Work - Biography of the Famous Jeweller and Goldsmith to Russian Royalty and Imperial Court -Large Hardcover Vintage Art Book.
London: Hamlyn Punlishing, 1971. Hardcover with dust jacket. 167 pp.
A beautiful book originally published in 1949 and written by Henry Charles Bainbridge. a friend of Fabergé in his early years in St. Petersburg, and later the manager of his London shop on Dover Street. His story is authoritative and personal with reminiscences of the atmosphere of the carefree Edwardian age. The book illustrates a wide range of Fabergé pieces–the incredibly ornate Easter eggs, gold cigarette boxes, clocks, miniatures, parasol holders, fruits and flowers, birds, animals in jasper, and his Russian peasants and cossacks.
It has been over fifty years since the celebrated Faberge Workshops closed their doors forever - but the Faberge name still holds a special significance in high quality art and craftsmanship - Once these workshops were the goldsmiths and jewellers used by the Czars of Russia - they were creators of exquisite art objects for European Royalty and other wealthy patrons - Peter Carl Faberge held the highest standards and had the most complex imagination which linked him to the great artist-craftsman of earlier centuries - compared to our age of machines and mass production, fine craftsmanship is rarely, if ever, encountered.
No one could be better qualified to reveal the unique story of Faberge's life and rise to fame, than his early personal friend and manager of the London Branch on Dover Street of the Faberge offices, Henry Charles Bainbridge author of this fine book.
