Tenmoku is the Japanese reading of Tienmu, a mountain in Zhejiang, China. The temple on this mountain was famed for using Jian ware bowls for drinking tea. This style of bowl proliferated the Song dynasty; their high-value and regard is well documented as the Yongle Emperor sent ten of these bowls to Ashikaga Yoshimitsu (1358-1408).
Originating from the late 16th century, Takatori ware was developed under the kirei-sabi aesthetic and guidance of tea master Kobori Enshū, thus elevating Takatori ware's position in the world of tea ceramics. less
