This is a beautiful period piece that … more Louis XIV commode hand-crafted in Southern France in the late 1600s using walnut. This is a beautiful period piece that is still in great shape despite the years, sure some restorations have been done throughout the centuries but they are barely visible and completely embedded in the patina accumulated over time. The commode features three rows of drawers, the top row is composed of three drawers, whereas the bottom two rows are one large drawer each. The drawers are overlaid and all show beautiful hand-made dovetail joints. The commode still sits on its original cabriole legs and features a beautiful hand-carved scallop apron on three sides. On the sides the commode is decorated with hand-carved chamfered panels framed by hand-carved molding. The top is composed by three boards with rounded front corners and framed by hand-carved molding.
Overall this is beautiful commode that was masterfully built. It is sturdy and, despite its age, can still be used on a daily basis. The color of the old walnut is warm and homey, making this a commode that will capture the attention of anybody entering the room. Because of its lines the commode will look great in a rustic setting but also with both antiques as well as modern furniture. less
