A native of Hillisburg, Indiana, Clayson Baker (1909-1975) studied with George Jo Mess and Simon Baus. He was a member of the Hoosier Salon and the Brown County Art Gallery and exhibited widely throughout Indiana. He seems to have had a fondness for Salt Creek (located near Nashville, IN) as several of his paintings have been of Salt Creek scenes.
As the 1971 book "Brown County Art and Artists" reports, Baker was a "full-time artist and art teacher". less
