Sortirios Pappas was a Greek surrealist and lyrical abstract painter active from the 1930’s -60’s with heavy influence by Abstract Expressionists (1940-1960) based in New York City and were often referred to as the New York School. They were influenced by the ideas of Surrealism and aimed to make abstract art that also possessed expressive and emotional qualities. Pappas's work can be sited as in the manner of work by New York School artist Franz Kline and Robert Motherwell. Pappas lived and created works primarily in France, Greece, Switzerland and Italy. This piece is from the artist's studio and is signed with the artist's atelier stamp on the back of the painting.
This piece is in good shape with only the natural fading of paper that comes with age. The artwork comes with a gallery style frame and 4" archival, acid free mat and Acrylite Conservation acrylic, filtering out 99% of harmful UV light.
