Description: St. Joseph with Child in Terracotta Beautiful example of Bolognese plastic work from the 1700s, circle of Angelo Gabriello Piò … more St. Joseph with Child in Terracotta Beautiful example of Bolognese plastic work from the 1700s, circle of Angelo Gabriello Piò (Bologna 1690 - 1770). Molded as a full-length figure, the saint is leaning on a square base, dressed in an ochre cloak over a greenish smock and barefoot. In his arms he holds the Child with outstretched arms as they both gaze lovingly at each other. The sculpture has been restored in that in the past, to obviate a repair on the legs a supplementary restoration was done, completing the drapery of the surplice up to the base to promote stability. The figure was restored to its original condition by removing all additions. The St. Joseph dates from the 1700s and comes from a private collection in Milan. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
