A trio of silver, white, and magenta flowers bloom with vibrant elegance, their layered petals unfolding in a graceful dance of color and light and embodying a striking harmony between boldness and delicate beauty, as if love itself were blooming on this hand-pulled limited edition silkscreen print from renown Washington D.C. artist Lou Stovall, 1996.
Signed, dated and numbered 14 of 75.
Lou Stovall (1937 – 2023) was a world-renown printmaker from Washington, D.C. whose innovative techniques and community building contributed to meaningful growth in the city’s art scene. His innovations in silkscreen printing pushed boundaries by using speckled layers and textured surfaces to capture paint-like effects. In 1968 he started Workshop Inc., a small printmaking studio that created posters for local events, concerts, and civil rights organizations and over time evolved into a professionally respected printmaking facility. He collaborated with notable artists including Jacob Lawrence, Alexander Calder, Gene Davis, Sam Gilliam, and Di Bagley Stovall, his wife. In 1982, First Lady Nancy Regan asked Stovall to design the Independence Day invitation for the White House. His work has been featured at the Phillips Collection and the Kreeger Museum. less
