One wonderful natural dark wood safari chair, designed by Wilhelm Kienzle in 1928 for Wohnbedarf and manufactured in the early 1950s in Switzerland, with frame made of stained solid dark oak wood, waxed clear, with beautiful cognac leather and great patina. Covering in original vintage strong leather, adjustable backrest, wood-to-wood joints are designed for the chair to be completely disassembled into a small weekender bag.
These chairs are campaign and travel chair design ikons, commonly used by traveling officials, hunters, archeologists and campers from the late 19th to mid-20th centuries. The folding teak oak frame complements the hand-sewn leather seat and is considered as a high tech innovation of its time.
As all chairs are handmade, each item has its individual patina, size and tarnish. Two belts underneath have been replaced and waxed with dark brown leather wax.
This one has a beautiful dark patina in dark brown. The Chair Leg straps have been replaced and one seating strap is renewed in brighter leather, not visible when placed and priced in.
The chair is in great, usable vintage condition. Seating and backrest is very solid, belts very stable.
It is not marked but 100% original brand of its time.
The charm and unique style of these handmade ikons is the original vintage appear.
