Armchair gaetano pesce for b&b - ititalia series up du5 and du6. Measures: 103 x 120 x 130 cm. It includes ottoman diameter 60 cm. An icon on international post-war design, and one of the most desirable armchairs, in original uplhostery and excellent condition. Good conditions. Gaetano pesce (1939) is one of the greatest exponents of italian design, in particular of radical design. In 1962 he embarked on a career as a designer collaborating with the c&b company (now b&b italia) on the creation of the up series, a series of seven models of polyurethane foam armchairs that immediately became one of the icons of italian industrial design. The most famous is the up5 which takes the form of the votive statues of the goddesses of fertility to give life to a real manifesto of political expression on the condition of women: the society of the late sixties was not ready to recognize women capabilities and relegates them to the margins of the political and social landscape. Well after the year 2000, when talking about the concept of his creation, pesce argued that the theme is still current in certain countries of the world. In 2000, b&b italia decided to re-propose the entire series of armchairs in a modern key. In 2010 he created for cassina sessantuna, a work made up of sixty-one tables which, joined together, form the figure of the characteristic boot, to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the unification of italy. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution less
