Artist bio:
ARNOLD IGER
New York, Contemporary Artist
Few artists are able to capture the intricate patterns and subtle range of colors of plants and flowers as successfully as Arnold Iger. To do so requires a rate combination of draftsmanship and sensitivity to natural beauty. Iger has spent the last ten years perfecting his talent and graphic expertise. The result is a series of exquisite color etchings, many hand-painted, all with the delicacy and fineness of line that became an Iger distinction.
Born in New York City in 1949, Iger's urban environment made him an early lover of plants and wildlife. As a young boy he expressed his attraction to nature by drawing the flora of Central Park during his free hours. Later he attended the Brooklyn Museum Art School, the University of Hawaii, the San Francisco Academy of Art, and the Atelier 17 of Paris.
Through all of this long development and maturing of his artistic talent, Iger has never lost his love of the simplicity and subtle beauty of nature, particularly flowers. Each of his etchings focuses on a different flower, with realistic attention to detail and depth of color that is unsurpassed among his contemporaries. Not only does the blossom itself receive his careful attention, but the leaves, stem, vase, even the water in the vase all are special to Iger's artistic eye and worthy of his individual touch. Everywhere one looks in an Iger etching, some new facet of natural beauty is revealed. Iger teaches us to perceive as well as to see, perhaps the most lasting gift any artist can offer.
Iger states, "My work is concerned with the interrelationship between simplicity and beauty in living things."
