This contemporary vase from Beijing assumes a traditional curved shape. Ranging from dark saturated tones to sheer washes, the expertly painted decoration depicts a number of items precious to scholars of the 18th and 19th centuries. It is capped with a shizi (otherwise known as a Fu dog), which symbolizes power and strength of character.
