On the left margin in grey ink, the year and title were printed in black ink. There is also a jizuri ("self-printed") mark, indicated it to be printed under Yoshida's inspection and considered to be up to his high technical standards. Pencil signed the lower margin right, "Toshi Yoshida" and titled "Sacred Grove" lower left.
Exposed image size with noted margin measures approximately 7.75"w x 10"h. Housed in the original Faux Bamboo carved wood glazed frame under a complimentary green color mat.
Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995) was the son of Hiroshi Yoshida, who is considered one of the greatest artists of the shin-hanga woodblock print style in the 20th century. Despite being influenced by his father, Toshi managed to forge a distinct style with in more daring color schemes and unconventional composition, drawn from his wide travel and exploration of the world. Toshi Yoshida's woodblock prints have received great acclaim and can be found in prestigious museums such as Museum of Modern Art, NY and the British Museum. less
