Artist bio:
GENEVIEVE RECKLING
American Oil Painter
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Reckling who grew up in Houston and raised her own family there, has lived in Phoenix since 1968.
Reckling studied art at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts School, University of Texas at Austin, and Arizona State University. Since 1972 she has been represented by the finest galleries across the country.
At this point, her life is "entirely focused on art." Her subject of flowers is more a tool for her study of light and color than a personal interest in gardens. She explains: "I strive for a synthesis between the two because I feel they represent the unity of all nature. Color speaks of the physical, material side of things; light, the living vital spiritual side." Her large floral canvases become much more than a colorful view of nature.
In this pursuit, Reckling has traveled to Tahiti to observe the tropical sun playing on the lush vegetation. The experience freed her flowers from captivity. Now they are among wilder nature. And Reckling's own imagination runs free. She notes "Light has always been the real subject of my paintings--the quest has been to push for the most brilliance, the most radiance, the most luminosity."
For Reckling, the quest is her life: "It's a paradox how so many things can be so easy, yet art gets increasingly more difficult. So I'm staying with it, because that's where the challenge is."
She is published in many art periodicals and her art is included in several corporate collections. Private collectors of Reckling's art include King Carlos of Spain.
