Winkler studied at the California Institute of Arts and created his first etching in 1915. During the following years, he established a large national reputation for his etchings, the great majority being depictions of San Francisco and its environs.

This etching is in collection of Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) and the McNay Art Museum in San Antonio.
