Perhaps best know for his artistry as a dancer, Frank Neal, born in 1915, flourished in circles of artists and intellectuals in Chicago and New York during the first half of the 20th century. Neal, a founding member of the South Side Community Art Center in Chicago, was also a painter trained at the Art Institute of Chicago. Neal was active in the South Side Community Art Center's ventures, including assisting in planning the annual fundraiser, The Artists and Models Ball Benefit, and being part of the first exhibition at the Center, "Negro Artists of Chicago."
