A Charming Late 18th Century Georgian, Mahogany D Shaped Tea Table, Having Exceptionally Rare Gilded And Hand Painted Decoration To Satinwood Cross Banded Foldover Top, Over Frieze with Hand Painted Decoration, Raised On Square Tapered Legs with Elegant Decoration.
Tea tables, as the name suggests were made to serve tea from. Often part of a pair, with an identical matching card table, or even a wider suite of furniture they would simply stand to one side in a room and be pulled out, then opened up when required to allow for the placement of trays containing all that is required to serve tea from.
Now of course aside from its original purpose this table suits a whole variety of different spaces around the home. It could be used as a console table, a pier table, a simple side table or even as a card games table.
Clearly from the workshops of an extremely skilled cabinet maker, this beautiful table has the most fabulously decorated top. There is a wide band of satinwood which has then been gilded and hand painted over and then mellowed superbly over time. The decoration is extremely intricate and means the table has incredibly elegance.
As with all items which we offer for sale it has been through our workshops, where our highly skilled, traditional antique furniture restorers have inspected it and given it a natural wax polish, ensuring that it is ready to be placed straight into the home.
