This is a very special mid-century modern ceramic box by the Asheville, North Carolina potter, Tyrone Larsen. Although his creations are beautiful, this box is exceptional. The decoration on the lid shows a strong Picasso influence. Two profiles of a male and female head are incised in expressionistic style. It is one of the most artistic pieces by Larsen. The thick coat of glaze in muted colors applied to the unfired clay gives a rich and bold look. The lid is monogrammed and the bottom is incised, “LARSEN”.
The condition is very good.
