Silver-plated bronze sculpture of a nude woman stretching, entitled "le réveil" This sculpture is unsigned, but is based on a model by DH Chiparus, which can be found in various patinas, but is rarely signed. Patina wear and tiny traces of knocks DH Chiparus (1886-1947) is the most representative artist of Art Deco sculpture: born in Romania, he studied in Florence before moving to Paris, where he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. During the interwar period, he was a leader for Parisian artists. He is best known for his chryselephantine sculptures of dancers in fanciful, theatrical outfits, but also depicted children and everyday scenes. The chryselephantine technique, already used in Ancient Greece, is the blending of ivory with another material, such as bronze, marble or even gold, in a work of art, giving it both a precious and highly decorative appearance.
