- Absolutely gorgeous and in beautiful vintage condition, this hibachi (or brazier as they were called) was originally made to heat … more Absolutely gorgeous and in beautiful vintage condition, this hibachi (or brazier as they were called) was originally made to heat small Japanese homes where the copper insert was filled with charcoal to radiate heat. This one has two containers. The other side would have a mesh grill placed on top to cook food or boil water for tea. Alternatively, they were used as planters when newer options of heating and cooking became available. One can imagine this as a gorgeous planter in an entry way or under a sunny window. There are also two small drawers. less
