Seaboard of the United States; it was comprehensive and stunning and relied upon by
subsequent artists such as Linnaeus; they were so meticulously created that scientists of the day relied upon them as well. Innovative was the portrayal of the animals together with the plants on which they feed.
Published here are the 1st watercolors from which Catesby prepared the etchings for the volumes he published. Purchased in 1768 by King George III, they have been kept protected in a volume of the book in the library of Windsor Castle until very recently.
Stunning and meticulous, clearly, Catesby was excited about the varieties of creatures he
discovered. The buffalo obviously blew him away.
The volume contains 160 pages filled with rich color, sketches, original descriptions by Cates, and etchings. A treasure.
