It is protected with durable satin lacquer, ensuring over 60 years of continued use. Flaws/Signs of Life: Minor random pitting on the desk top, consisting of very small indentations (the worst of which can be seen clearly in the detail photos provided) as well as a faint warping on the far right corner where a previous plant left a subtle ring, which did not fully disappear during the refinishing process. The left middle drawer handle has been sanded down, resulting in a loss of approximately 25% of the 'eyelid' design (also shown in the detail photos provided). This exceptional executive desk is highly functional, structurally sound and ready for a lifetime more of use. Discover the elegance of this exquisite floating rosewood executive desk, a masterpiece designed by the renowned Kai Kristiansen for Feldballes Mobelfabrik in the 1960s (Model # FM 60). Characterized by quintessential Mid-Century Danish design, this desk features clean, straight lines complemented by smooth curves and a striking floating top. The fully finished bookshelf back allows for versatile placement, making it a stunning focal point in any space from any angle.
Kai Kristiansen was born in Denmark in 1929 and is a key designer of the 20th century. Kristiansen studied as a carpenter an in 1948 he enrolled in the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen under the guidance of influential designer Kaare Klint. At the age of only 26, Kristiansen opened his own studio and started making furniture in what would soon become known as Danish Modern.
His designs were and still are produced by well-known Danish companies such as Feldballes Møbelfabrik, Fornem Møbelkunst, Fritz Hansen, Vildbjerg Møbelfabrik and Magnus Olesen. In the purest modernist style, Kristiansen prefers teak and rosewood in the creation of his works, whether they are chairs, sideboards, desks or bookcases. Today his design objects have great value among collectors, and Kristiansen is universally recognized as one of the most important and talented Scandinavian designers of the twentieth century.
This artfully designed and crafted desk strikes the perfect balance—ample workspace paired with thoughtful storage. It boasts six drawers with sculpted wood ‘eyelid’ pulls, two of which are locking, complete with an included key. Three open bookshelf compartments on the rear enhance its functionality and aesthetic appeal. Make it yours today.
