Exceptionally rare and very fine suite of six original, fully stamped Edward & Roberts dining chairs made after the George Hepplewhite design. The firm Edwards and Roberts were among the best English antique furniture cabinet makers of the second half of the eighteenth century. The company was founded in 1845 and by 1854 was trading as ‘Edwards and Roberts’, 21 Wardour Street, ‘Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture’. They became one of the leading London cabinet makers and retailers. They produced high quality furniture, as well as good copies of the 18th and 19th century English and French pieces. There workmanship included furniture with satinwood marquetry and favoured the Georgian designs. They were known for restoring adapting older pieces of antique furniture to suit more modern needs. The quality of timber used was always the best, with fine burr walnuts, figured mahogany and lighter toned satinwood These chairs are a super rare and highly collectable find, they are very heavy being made from period Mahogany, the seat pads are deep cigar brown leather which has aged very well and looks exactly as you wish it to We have lightly restored the suite to include a deep clean, hand condition wax and hand polish, there will be normal age and use related patina marks all over as you would expect based on the age, there is nothing negative to note and all the patina adds to the style and charm Dimensions Height:- 93cm Width:- 53cm Depth:- 54cm Seat height:- 47cm This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker.
