These fabulous ‘fuga’ wall lamps were designed at the end of the 1950s by the finnish architect and industrial designer maija liisa komulainen, one of the top designers of the raak design team from amsterdam, holland. Komulainen won several international awards with her designs. The fuga wall lamp mysteriously shines the light while the light source remains invisible from the straight-line cylinders made from brushed aluminium tubes - almost like an organ pipe. Designed as a single tube wall lamp, you could buy 2 tubes, 3 tubes and 5 tubes, whatever you wanted to fit your interior design. These particular lights each have three tubes - so six tubes in total. The tubes are silver / light copper colour, with white enamel on the inside and black painted iron wall mounts. Signed with applied manufacturer's label to each example: raak amsterdam made in holland.
in good period condition, with age-related patination to the brushed aluminium tubes. There is evidence of white paint to the black iron wall mounts. The lights are independently wired, so can be placed apart as desired. Professionally rewired and ready to hang. Each light measures 40cm h x 21cm w x 10cm d
raak is best known for their organic modern design of the 1960s and 1970s which combined glass and metals for a sophisticated futuristic style. The company was founded in 1954 by carel o.lockhorn, a previous employee of philips lighting eindhoven. Raak, means “to hit” in dutch, which implies design that precisely “hits the nail on the head”.
