AESTHETIC MOVEMENT BRASS AND PIGMENTED TILE ACCENT TABLE
Circa 1900 | unmarked
Item # 408GPK21P
This unusual and rather interesting Aesthetic Movement table features an encaustic tile top set in a star-pattern surrounded by a leaf-and-vine border with the various colors and designs bordered with inlaid brass. This is surrounded by a thick brass border that encompasses the ovolu corners and locks the tile together. The elaborate stamped brass tubular baluster raises the swirling brass strapwork that holds the table top fast and the table rests over tripodal curved legs terminating in simple brass plates. The colors of the top are most pleasing.
Measurements: 29 7/16" H x 13 3/4" W x 13 3/4" D
Condition Report:
Top with a stress crack that runs from one corner to the other, other light wear and surface history; there is a slight bend to one of the legs that required us to place a pad under it in order to level the table - it is still not perfectly level or square, but is pretty close and is certainly enjoyable exactly how it is; dent to the legs and baluster in a few spots; old solder joints are visible in the corners here and there (notably one leg with the baluster and where the feet caps affix); replaced brass hex nuts and custom machined spacers; a lovely presentation.
