This 1960 portrait of a French fisherman with all of the characterization one imagines features the impasto technique which adds a realistic element. Message on the verso reads "pecheur aux sables dolanne (Vendee) Octobre 1960" which translates to "fisherman in sables d'olonne
Vendee October 1960". This is a small seaside resort and port on the central coast of France. Recently acquired from Dutch pickers, this stretched canvas on frame was purchased unframed which is something we like. Such expressive eyes.
