The Dutch furniture designer Cees Braakman (1917 - 1995) began working at the Pastoe company at the age of 17. At that time, his father was managing director and also chief draftsman at Pastoe. In the mid-1940s, Cess Braakman traveled to the United States to study other manufacturers' processes and designs. He was particularly inspired by the designs of Ray and Charles Eames and the Herman Miller Company. Back at his parents' business, he began experimenting with bending plywood and designed the first series of furniture for Pastoe. In 1954, the very rare sideboard model “DB02” was made from birch wood and birch veneer. The doors have a piano hinge in the middle and can therefore be opened along their entire length to save space. Inside there are two shelves and a smaller one for storing glasses. The four pull-out drawers are made of molded birch plywood. Our restorer Roland Wyttenbach completely restored the entire sideboard. Inside, all surfaces and drawers were sanded. Any stains have mostly disappeared or are barely visible. The old paint on the entire outside was completely removed, everything was sanded, re-stained and freshly painted. The sideboard is therefore in perfect, almost new condition. Any stains in the photos are due to reflections on the veneer. Length 154cm.
