Description: A premier original matching pair of antique cloisonné on porcelain “tree bark” baluster vases hand-crafted in Japan during the Meiji … more A premier original matching pair of antique cloisonné on porcelain “tree bark” baluster vases hand-crafted in Japan during the Meiji Period in the mid 19th Century (ca. 1868). The vessels are large in size and of slender, high-shouldered form. They are covered in a dark enamel with birds, butterflies, azaleas, chrysanthemums, blossoms, and other traditional Asian motifs framed with patterned bands, all reserved on textured “tree bark” ground. The white porcelain base on the interior and base create contrast against the dark design featured on the exteriors. The original stickers with provincial information can be found on the base of each. A pair like this is hard to come by and the premier craftsmanship is displayed in the intricacies and form. less
