Andre Derain (France 1880 - 1954) Seated Woman by French Artist Andre Derain Limited Edition Lithograph. Numbered 18 of the 300 edition on lower left and Stamped 'Atelier Amore Derain' on Lower right. Visible area 22 tall x 16.75 inches wide, frame 32 tall x 24 inches wide.
Derain was a French painter, printmaker, theatrical designer, and sculptor. In the first two decades of the 20th century he was at the center of avant-garde developments in Paris and is know as one of the foremost creators of Fauvism.: he was one of the creators of Fauvism. During the 1920s, Derain moved away from his pre-war experimentation to a more conservative "Old Masters" style. Apparently, his shift away from an avant-garde style was so controversial that in January 1931, the periodical Les Chroniques du jour published a feature entitled ‘André Derain: Pour ou Contre’. less
