Description: On offer is this rare piece by Washington State artist, Oliver Tiedemann (1919 -1986); a co-founder of Klee Wyk Studio … more On offer is this rare piece by Washington State artist, Oliver Tiedemann (1919 -1986); a co-founder of Klee Wyk Studio in 1953. This handmade piece was inspired by the Spedis Owl, which was a petroglyph found near the Columbia River. The front features a primitive rendition of the Spedis Owl in a shadowy form, with an overall dappled background effect in shades of green. The back features the explanation and signature by the artist as well as the date of the piece, which was 1978. It's approximately 10.25" diameter and 1" high. In great vintage condition.

About the artist: Tiedemann specialized in Northwest Native American art and associated murals. In 1953, he and his cousin, Del McBride (Cowlitz/Quinault) founded Klee Wyk Studio where artists used Northwest Coast Indian motifs in design work that was sold in galleries and installed in public buildings. Tiedemann originally crafted the numerous Native American art symbols for the Naval Hospital in Bremerton, WA, in 1977. Work from Klee Wyk artists can be found around Washington State, as well as in personal collections. less
