Handsome scrubbed pine chest of drawers in a two over three configuration. Dowel construction, dovetailed drawers with molded edge. Cut glass knobs. Original key hardware but key not included. Signed on both bottoms of top drawers with cabinet maker name (illegible), 1875. The second drawer reads "Simpson's, 21 Nicolas St, Lancaster, 1875".
Robert Simpson (b.1809-d.1872), owner of Simpon's, 20-21 Nicholas Street, Lancaster, Lancashire; was a cooper, chair maker, cabinet maker and furniture maker.
Robert Simpson was a highly regarded cabinetmaker of the era. Son of Thomas, a sawyer of Lancaster, who was apprenticed to William Hinde, joiner and house carpenter, from 2 June 1821 for seven years. If so, his apprenticeship was cancelled on 15 October 1825. less
