This is a fine type with a serpentine crest and ears having bold carved leafage at center above a pierced strap-work splat. Importantly, each arm is carved with a bird's head and neck. The slip seat is now in muslin. The seat frame is edged with gadroon carving above bold cabriole legs with well carved leafage knees and scrolled end. The ball and claw feet are correctly done for the period with a nice snap to the ankle and fully carved claws, without webbing, embracing compressed ball feet. Again, it’s important to note all of the design clues that emanate from Chinese design. The origination of the famous ball and claw foot is China, although most often associated by us as being only an English Chippendale feature. less
