Description: A polychrome and gilt hand carved statue of the Virgin Mary and Child, the child holding a scroll and seated … more A polychrome and gilt hand carved statue of the Virgin Mary and Child, the child holding a scroll and seated in the crook of his mother's arm. Mary is clothed in a flowing robe of gold over a green skirt. Though her dress is simply presented, the face of both figures are delicately carved and expressive. The statue rests on a simple gilded base. We are conservatively dating this piece as early 19th century. less
